3 days ago I received an E-mail from a friend. I read it and (thought) I deleted it....Today Ihave gone back into outlook express (which defaults to my inbox)...My problem is my friends E-mail is still there (and highlighted)...It is obviously currupt (or the .dbx file is)) becuase outlook express stops working and I get the (outlook Express is not responding error). When I start the program and quickly click on another folder, the program works fine...It only malfunctions on the currupted Email that my friend sent me...Any ideas on how to get rid of the currupt Email so I can use the program....At the moment I cant go to my Inbox. I have contacted my provider but they say they cant delete it their end as it is not showing up there (due to outlook express not being currently set up to give them a copy of my E-Mails)
Open Outllok Express, click Tools, Options, Maintenance, click Store folder. Now copy the path, go to Start, Run, paste the path, click Ok. This should open the folder storing your dbx files. Find and delete Inbox.dbx, the file will be rebuilt the next time you start OE. Let us know if this resolves your problem.

Hi,
I was just searching in the forums as I had the same problem - a very large (10MB attachments) email in my inbox was deleted from the browser version of my mail account (Pipex) but wouldn't delete from my Outlook Express version.
I've just deleted the dbx inbox file successfully but now when I start OE the inbox just appears completely empty - it doesn't seem to have rebuilt or synchronised with my 'real' inbox.
Can you suggest what I need to do - I have checked all the 'send and receive' settings as far as I can tell.
Thanks,
Claire

It is re-built in the sense that is as "Brand New".
All data was lost.
Of course if the data was at all critical we could suggest Data Recovery options but they are quite complex and or pricey. There are some links here:
