    codec issue

I installed the klite k++ codec pack and am not able to view some videos correctly (the colors are basically only red green and blue, very choppy etc.
    Take http://www.sillycake.com/media/8383/...rick_Shot.html for example

Any ideas on how I can fix this? I recently reformatted this computer, which is why it doesnt work, but I believe on my laptop all I did was install the klite codec pack and it worked (I can view that video on my laptop)
    thanks

First off I would run a System Restore to a point prior to installing the codec pack.

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Or uninstall the K Lite Codec Pack.

Also after reloading XP did you install SP2 and all Windows Updates?

    Also your Graphics Card drivers?

With all Windows Updates in place try reinstalling the K Lite:

I did exactly as you said, but no luck
(I didnt restore, I just uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled. I already have the latest windows update, and yes I have my graphics card drivers installed. (x800)

I would try a System Restore to before the first install of the Codec Pack and then test the graphics without the Codec Pack.

a system restore isnt very feasible, I've had the pack installed for a while but never had the time to get around to figure out whats wrong with it. Any other ideas?

Uninstall it and clean the registry. Try without it. There should be no need for it.

    Uninstall Programs Manually

Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.

    *

Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory. e.g. click C: under My Computer then Program Files etc.
    *

Open regedit (start/run regedit) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
    *

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]

If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
    and delete the entry.
A good free Registry Cleaner here: RegSeeker

It is a good idea to backup your Registry before cleaning. This is a good free tool for that:

I just noticed, my regedit doesnt work (start > run > regedit)

I get an ms-dos screen, and an error.
The title of the error is "16 bit ms-dos subsystem, and the rest of it says: "C:/windows/system32/regedit.comthe NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. (Some random nums) Choose close to terminate the application.

    Any ideas?
Also, on the regseeker program you listed, what does clicking "clean the registry" do exactly?

Your symptoms now are pointing very much to a virus. Your regedit.exe has apparently been replaced by regedit.com which is not an XP file.

Much more on this in this search:

    http://groups.google.com/group/micro...s+error&qt_g=1

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.

As to RegSeeker: it finds invalid registry entries then offers to delete them. It lists them in either red or green depending on totally safe to delete and then red = questionable. It also creates backups. For a free cleaner it is the best I know of. I have used it for years.

    hey.
    Ya regedit.com works
those files arnt the issue, they've been on my computer for a long time (I'm a webmaster)

    Any more suggestions?
I am confused here as regedit.com is Not an XP file or application. regedit.exe and or regedit are the XP commands to open the Registry Editor.

If regedit.com works for you then you still have some malware on your computer.

Codec Packs are notorious vehicles for viruses and malware although I do use K-lite myself with no problems. http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

I would uninstall and reinstall the Pack but also find out and remove the source of regedit.com.

It might just work to delete that file although the Spyware guys would have more knowledgeable advise.

Were you able to run regedit.exe successfully? The COM version was probably put there by malware (which we want to find and eliminate, if present).

There were several cleaning errors encountered in Ewido.

Delete FILES: (and likely its containing FOLDERS)

    C:\feras\www\jobs\imdoll.com\imdollnetpal\aess11.c ab
    Z:\current_backup\www\jobs\imdoll.com\imdollnetpal \aess11.cab

You might want to re-run Ewido in SAFE MODE (tapping the F8 key while rebooting).

There was also a second scan that I recommended you do - please run the Panda scan and report back.
