Please help.

I am operating on Windox XP on the company laptop.

At home, I have a Xerox multi function X50, I want to print/scan something but can't.
1st I install the driver from the CD provided but still can't work.
I went to PC World, told the technician my problem this morning. he showed me to goto "fax & printer", select the Xerox X50 & goto properties to select either using USB or Paralel port.

I am not sure what happened but
I lost all the printer icons in the "fax&printer".
I restore the system to this morning & all the icons came back.

But now when I click on any of the printer & tru to enter the properties,
message: printer spooler service is not connected??

Help!!!

Will I be able to print anything when I return to work on Monday??

You can start and set to automatic the Print Spooler Service here:

start/run services.msc

then type in: C:\services.msc

Does the Xerox machine have to connect to the laptop?

When I goto:

Start
Printer & Faxes
All the icons of the various prinetrs install are visible, on the RHS of each prinetr there are 3 rows. 1st row: name of printer, 2nd row: 0, 3rd row: Ready.
I right clit on the Xerox
box appear:
1st row: Set as default printer
2nd rowrinting preferences...
3rd row: Pause printing
4th row: sharing....
5th row: Use printer offline
6th row: create short cut
7th row: Delete
8th row: Rename
9th row: Properties

If I select "Properties"
a set of taps appear: General,Sharing, Ports, Advance, Management, Security

If I click on "General" & others except "Ports", a box appear with message: you must select at least one port

In the ports tap:

There are nothing in the window

What do I do next??
I apologise for the simple step by step but I am not very IT knowlegible

From your first message it indicated that the Print Spooler was not on.

To turn this on and set to automatic (if it is not) go to services and find Print Spooler.

start/run services.msc

Or go to start Administrative Tools > Services

After that if the issue is not resolved repost the problems please.

In general a printers software must be installed on a PC prior to connecting the printer.

I entered services.msc & it showed the print spooler is on automatic.

An error report is generated and the Technical information about error report.

The following files will be included:

COCUME-1\RQUEK-LEA\LOCALS-\Temp\WER44a1.dir001 Spoolsv.exe.mdmp

and

COCUME-1\RQUEK-LEA\LOCALS-\Temp\WER44a1.dir001 \appcompat.txt.

What can I do next??

Was the Print Spooler ON (started) ?

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

Look for errors that in time or due to application appear to relate to printing.
