Don't Install Internet Explorer 7 beta

DON'T INSTALL IE7 BETA. I DID AND IMMEDIATELY, I COULD NOT OPEN LINKS IN OUTLOOK EXPRESS. STRANGELY, I COULD OPEN THEM IN OUTLOOK!! i SPENT SEVERAL HOURS FOOLING AROUND TRYING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT FINALLY CALLED MS. I TOLD THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND THEY SAID "WE KNOW THAT THE LINKS WON'T WORK IN OE!!!!! IT WILL BE FIXED ABOUT, OH, NOVEMBER! " THATS 2007, MICROSOFT TIME!! THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT TO WORK FOR MS, YOU MUST HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE DESTRUCTION OF GENERAL MOTORS AT SOME POINT IN YOUR CAREER.

thing with installing BETA versions is they may have problems

A beta version or beta release usually represents the first version of a computer program that implements all required features although additional features may be added. It is likely to be unstable but useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but not yet ready for release. Some developers refer to this stage as a preview, as a technical preview (TP) or as an early access.

I'm surprised you got in here to tell us that, because I can't get IE to work this forum program at all.. I just get a big blank area... but I have firefox as well, so no worries. Brain_damage has a good point there, it is a Beta, which means "not done", "Still Testing", "Don't install on anything you care about..."

They are finding many things wrong.. but I am very curiious, ... were you able to use this Forum with IE7? Is anybody, because I can't use it at all.. I'm checking now to see if I missed an update or something.

    1. I understand that BETA implies not finished. BUT, a flat tire implies don't drive your car. So if someone asks to use my car AND I KNOW THE TIRE IS FLAT, I tell them the tire is flat so they know if they want to use the car that is half a mile away, they are going to have to fix the tire first. Now they can decide if they want to walk the half mile, not walk the half mile only to find the tire is flat. MS KNOWS that this program does not work with links in OE (but Outlook allows links to open??) so they could at least post this information with the program so that users would know what to expect and not spend time trying to repair the unfixable. I'm used to a certain method to madness.

    2. I never tried to open this site with OE7. I got in because I talked with MS, was told THEY KNOW IE does not allow links to open in OE, went to control panel and obliterated IE7 and went back to IE6. Everything's fine now. I am familiar with OE and it has some features I prefer so it is the program I want to use.

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ie7 however I also was running Firefox which I made as my default browser. I could not open up any links in OE. Than I made IE7 my default browser and the problem went away. Hope this might help you. Tony

    Thanx Tony.
I was using IE as my default browser. MS did not mention this fix. Maybe I was connected to their office on Mars! However, since I spent several hours fooling around trying to correct the problem I made a commitment to myself to NOT download any more BETA crap from MS. I'm not MS certified or anything such as that and far from what could be termed an expert. I do know more than the average user, and don't mind rummaging around the registry and such as that. I've had a computer since 1984 (First was a Compaq DeskPro 4, 10 MEGABITE hard disk, 640K RAM, 5.4 floppy, 12" monochrome monitor, PFS Write, File, Report-$4950.00. IBM QuietWriter Printer $1300.00!) so I've supported the Digital Revolution financially. However, I cannot reconcile the fact that MS writes Windows and should know it intimately so they can avoid such problems as this and yet, a Beta version won't work with their Email program. Sounds like they ought to be running FEMA. Of course, this is a company run by the genius who wrote The Road Ahead several years ago and didn't mention the Internet so I suppose when fate posed with the option of smart or lucky, he chose lucky. Maybe his luck will cause him to hire someone who's smart enough to avoid problems such as this. Meanwhile, no more MS beta's for me!!!!
