It would help to have the exact error messages.

What happens when you try to boot from the disk?

You can do a repair install without losing your data.

First let me thank you for responding. next it looks like someone else with the name close to mine is having the same problem. Freaked me out at first.

My error message is as follows:

DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.

I do not have an XP disk It came loaded on the pc. I have a recovery CD rom and a driver resource diagnostic tools disc. Neither has worked in restarting windows for me. I also tried to restore to previous working date and it did not have one. I will be up all night so please respond. It is my birthday on 10/3 and I think my wife has bought some new software for me thanks in advance for any help

Also I think the problem started when i tired to uninstall SP2. Matter of fact I am sure of it. HELP ME LOOK LIKE A HERO

    may I ask why you were uninstalling sp2;
not that that was a bad idea, just, if you were having problems with sp2 they might be enlightning.
plus you say you tried to uninstall? Did you uninstall? Or did you crash during the process?

it crashed during the uninstall. I was having problems with my tech-in-the box program which is like a diagnostic tool/recovery/backup program. It gave me a message of image not available or something like that. That is why i tried to get rid of SP2.

all the advice I see about a crash during SP2 uninstall recommends a repair install of XP.

with a system disk it is possible to do a repair install without losing your data; but I understand you have a recovery disk; have you tried to Boot from this disk?

I am not familiar with OEM recovery cd's but will continue to look around.

Here is just an entry point into windows usenet groups that you may want to browse as well:

    microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

just an addition from quick searches:

    1. Is this machine under any warrenty?
    2. Who is the manufacturer?

microsoft does little to support OEM systems & explicitly states not to use certain fixes as they may not be compatable with alterations preformed by your particular manufacturer.
if, however, you are willing to take certain chances; one idea is to find a friend that has a full system cd of xp & then try to boot your machine from that.
there is no conflict of licences, as those reside within each machine, but a full install cd might damage some OEM installed alterations is the risky point.
