Hi. have 20 gb lap top hard drive which is used to connect to usb on desktop so it is portable. one ofg my pcs it reads when i instal but the other it does not. HELP

Are you hot swapping it? If so do you get an audio indicator? What exactly happens.

Try plugging it in with the computer off then boot? Any difference?

no difference wont read it i go to device manager no yellow marks

So it is detected?

Is it listed under Disk Management?

Is it listed under My Computer?

If yes and yes what exactly happens when you try to open it?

does not show in my computer as extra hard drive. But when i connect it i hear the sound as to suggest it has picked it up

now when i connect it it shows up in device manager as uab mass storage device, and now has yellow mark there

ok had yellow mark uninstalled it reinstalled hear the sound then it says your new hardware has been installed correct ready to use but its not there in my computer

What I was driving at is that if the drive is detected under Disk Management: Start/Run/ diskmgmt.msc


But not under My Computer: this generally indicates the drive not being recognized as a formatted drive.

Besides this can you think of any difference between the computer on which this works and this one where it does not?
