REGEDIT disabled by adminstrator ? I'm administrator !

    Hello,
I recently tried to run REGEDIT only to be greeted with the following error box :-
registery editing has been disabled by your administrator .
Yet I am the administrator on my PC !!!
If I log in on my wifes account I can run it fine , but not on my own account!!
I've checked all account status and I'm shown as administrator etc.
Is this virus or spyware ??
I have ran Nortons , Avast ( normally and in safe mode ) nothing found
downloaded trial of Bitdefender and ran normally ( could not get it to run in safe mode)
    any help gratefully received
    Gaz

See Tip 275 in MVP Kelly's site:
Lift Restrictions - TM, Regedit and CMD
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

If any problem there the manual setting is here:

Go to your Start>Run and type the following exactly between and without the
    Quotes ("")

    "REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System
    /v DisableRegistryTools"

    and/or

    "REG DELETE HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System
    /v DisableRegistryTools"

This behavior is usually changed by a virus. That being said you might want to run a HijackThis log by our Pros in that section.

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.
