Need help with DVD on Dell Dimension 3000

This is my first post...I've heard great things about this site from my brother who is also a part of the D-A-L community. Here is my problem: I recently had problems with my Dell Dimension 3000 computer and ended up having to re-install a fresh copy of WinXP. However, now when I put a DVD in, my Windows Media Player comes up saying that the DVD cannot be played because I do not have a compatible dvd decoder on my computer. I went to the Dell site and put in my PC model ,etc and looked under the "file dowloads" section, but I am not sure which file I am supposed to download to retreive this decoder in order to play my DVD's again. Dell does not help with software issues, etc. if your warranty is expired, which mine is. I DO know that SONIC was installed on the PC when I first got it from Dell, now it is not on there, but there are a few different SONIC downloads on the site and I do not want to download the wrong one...can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated!

All I see are updates for Sonic.

Sonic MyDVD™ Bundled with Dell PCs would need to be reinstalled.

Is it perhaps on your Recovery Disk?

Yes, I noticed that there were only updates available for SONIC on the Dell site and not the actual application. Unfortunately, I do not have the recovery disk, but am searching for the Sonic bundle as we speak. Thanks for your response!

Hello - Since re-installing a fresh copy of Windows XP, I haven't been able to play DVD's in Windows Media Player, only CD's will play. I had WMP10 installed at first, and when inserting a DVD an error message would read that it would not play DVD's because I did not have a compatible dvd encoder installed on my pc. Frustrated, I just upgraded to WMP11 thinking that may fix it, now the error message reads "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection (C00D1163)". I since then have installed and play DVD's thru VLC Media Player but prefer to play thru WMP, as there are many media clips, etc on the web that are run strictly via WMP. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated

What Windows updates have you reinstalled?

    SP2?

    .NET Framework 2.0?

That error is often related to faulty or improper software.

I am assuming that you got Sonic reinstalled correctly?

    Hi Cass,
Do you have all the CD that came w/ your Comp? There is a Dimension Resource CD for Cyberlink PowerDVD. You will need to install that decoding software to play your DVDs. This Decoding software had came pre-installed when you received your comp. The XP re-install performed has removed this and all other pre-installed software. Lates
