    Creative sends one to E-MU

Do you have a Creative Professional / E-MU product? If so, please visit E-MU's support site for assistance

    EMU10K1

I do not see your model there but you might try experimenting with various drivers. You will need to find the drivers for that card or whatever card you end up using. The on-board drivers will not work well with that or any other card.

One example from e-MU to try: 8mb E-MU GM SoundFont Bank (Windows XP)

Also just a general search for a driver:

Just an afterthought: disabling on-board audio might help.

    THANK YOU!!!

I tried the sound card in all slots also. The second slot seems to have helped.
I downloaded the drivers and I hunted down the Creative Sound driver install too
    Disabled the onboard sound.

I now have great sound back...

I am still puzzled as to why the sound would not work other than using another sound card, suppose it doesn't matter since I do have sound. Glad I had the sound card available.

Thank you so much for taking the time and giving me all the advice.
    I do appreciate it!!!

It's 3:00 am and I am pooped from this sound issue.
I'll be making a donation tommorow, when the mind has been rested.

    Thank you again!
    Nancy

Thanks for the thanks and support!

I can only guess that we didn't find the required driver for the onboard chip.

Fry did not list drivers for your model but the motherboard was listed and we tried the motherboard driver.

The only next steps I had in mind were a full chipset driver and or a BIOS re flash.

As you say now that the card is working this is all moot. I can't imagine how your software problem could have damaged the hardware so I can only assume that there is a mystery driver out there somewhere.
