Question How do I revert to Windows 2000 from XP?

Hi all, for various reasons, I want to revert to Windows 2000 on my son's PC, which currently has XP on it.

I do have the operating discs for 2000 but wondered if I can "step back", if you like, without wiping the hard drive and reinstalling 2000.

Is it possible and if it is, do you think it's a better option than reinstalling 2000 and then adding back other software programs.

In advance, thanks for any help/suggestions/tips.

    Cheers
    Jane

No it is not possible. You have to Clean Install 2K.

On another tack you could examine any XP issues that you might have here on this forum.

Going backwards doesn't make much sense to me

You will also need to find any and all 2K specific drivers for your hardware.

    Thanks for your reply Jephree.

My son is 5 years old and plays Jay Jay the Jet Plane!

He has an old PC so that I don't have to sacrifice mine in order for him to play when I'm trying to work. It's a really old machine and I have discussed what to do with the thing in the XP forum - I think the advice was to skip it, lol!!! It just has the minimum requirements to run XP.

Buying him a new one (even entry level Dell) isn't something I can afford to do right now.

This is why I was thinking of reverting to 2000 - just to get it running a bit quicker.

Having briefly browsed your other threads you could add another 128MB RAM to this machine.

This is a good scan you can run on it:

You can probably find this for less than $50US and it is easy to install.
