    Post-Format Partitioning

Is it possible to create a partition after my hard disk is formatted and Windows XP has already been installed?

I'm a gamer, I play a MMORPG called Everquest, but I play on a dial up connection. Technically I could fdisk and format the drive to create a partition, but if I do that I will spend WEEKS downloading game patches, reinstalling all my software, etc., which I'd rather not do.

I have an old game called Diablo, the original pc version which I'd LOVE to play, but it doesn't work with WinXP, only works with Win95-98. So I figured.."Hey make a partition and put Win98 on it, then play your old school game!" But does this mean losing everything I have on my comp now?

If ya know a way around this I'd sure love to hear how to do it please? Oh and I may be a gamer but I'm pretty much computer illiterate, so details would be VERY appreciated lol.

    Thanks in advance gang!

You need third party software to do this.

The most common is Partition Magic @ $69.95 US

    Also:

Have you tried the Program Compatibility Wizard for your old games?

start > All Programs > Accessories > Program Compatibility Wizard

Tried Compatibility Wizard..no luck there. When I get a chance I'll pick up the 3rd party software. Can go ahead and close this thread. Thanks!

There is only one free Partitioning tool that I have ever come across:

    http://www.ranish.com/part/

It runs from a bootable floppy and is much more hands on than Partition Magic would be.

If you are up to the challenge and risk.

There are other programs out there as well:

I only pointed out Partition Magic as it is the most popular.
