Screen one is the standard screen after Windows shutsdown improperly.

Screen two is Safe Mode trying to load.

Do you have a Microsoft XP CD or was XP pre-installed (OEM)?

If the former try what follows. If the latter what is the make and model of the computer? We will need to check your manual for Recovery Options.

If you cannot boot into Windows I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307654

To try to fix the boot:

Assuming that your XP is on C: then:

    Type:

    FIXMBR C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    FIXBOOT C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    BOOTCFG /rebuild

then enter. After that completes type:

    EXIT

    then reboot.

If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.

Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:

    C:\Windows
    1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
    2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
    3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)

    Reply:
    1. Yes
    2. XP
    3. /fastdetect

If this fails you can run a Repair Install that will leave your data intact:

Have you checked your boot order in the BIOS?

Just to clarify: you cannot boot any bootable floppies?

What happens? Do you see the floppy light and or hear the click as the drive is detected?

There are several checks listed in this thread:

    http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-111...hreadID=193894

Assuming that you haven't altered the hardware and it was working previously I would suggest clearing the CMOS as a first step.

To do this unplug the computer and remover the motherboard battery. You may also see a 3 pin jumper next to the battery perhaps labeled JBAT. If so move the jumper from 1|2 to 2|3 for a few minutes. Then reset to 1|2 and replace the battery.

As another check test your Boot discs on another computer to see if they will boot.

Ok I changed the Floppy drive apparently even though it was making the correct sound and the light was on it was not actually working, and I am running the boot discs as I write this I will report back.
