    Cool computer shuts down

I had this shutting down problem before and the tech at the computer store said sometimes it's just a problem w/ dust. He used "Dust Off" and sold me a can of it. My computer worked fine for about 3 months. Now all of a sudden it's doing it again. I've sprayed the keyboard, fan (and other 'grate' on the bottom),and the battery and compartment with Dust Off. I can hear the fan running but am wondering if it's not cooling the unit well enough. It does get hot on the bottom, but I can still put my hand there without burning it. Do any of you have thoughts about other things that might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    pam

Your laptop could be getting warm

I've never tried one but there are coolers about, that may help

Do you know what the guy cleaned? Did he open up the laptop? Remove the keyboard?

How does it shut down? Just powers off or reboots or freezes?

You can change this setting to try to force error messages.

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Also view your Error Log via:

    [1] Start Menu
    [2] Help and Support
    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

    Look for any synchronous entries.

You can also install the free version of Everest Home Edition from this site:

    http://www.oldversion.com/

Listed under Utilities. After you install it open to > Computer > Sensor

This will display all the temps that your board supports detecting.
