Unhappy Help My Windows Xp Service Pack 2 Has Several Probs I Cant Fix!

Hi my name is Auriel,I am usually pretty good with the internet&computers but this is a nightmare!
Firstly my Media Player isnt there at ALL now as I tried to update it as it was under 9.0 then I discovered that 9 wasnt available anymore so I tried downloading 10 but it says its incompatible with the components i think..
So I NO longer have that..Then I tried to upload another newer version of windows xp as i thought it would help with everything thats been going wrong,,but it didnt in fact i got even more confused as normally theres a few toolbars at the top of the page but once this was downloaded there was none!&it was completely different! It was a tester of the new Beta version..
So i did system restore which got my comp back to normal thank god(or so i thought)just to discover that every time i went to type in something etc or another page needed to come up it keeps saying something about 'NULL' ?
&with my partners pages it wont even do that ! t wont even allow him to go into the site etc..It just Freezes!!
Pls PLs help we REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO..We really need your help..
Its A Internet explorer 6.0&service pack XP 2 we have..
    &I downloaded that again today...
But I cant find anything to get it fixed...
Pls help..As its not only that its been too slow logging off etc for ages..&We really need our Media player as I just got an MP3 player&it needs Media player to download the music!
Pls someone help..It would be really appreciated..

    Auriel

You can download media player 9 here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...s/default.aspx not sure if it will install on XP these days but you can give it a try.

You say: "Then I tried to upload another newer version of windows xp "

    What exactly is this?

Do you have a retail version of XP or an OEM (pre installed) version?

If the former I'd suggest a Repair Install as seen here:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If the latter check your manual for Non-Destructive Recovery Options.
