Could not get stats error message
I am moving house and my Desktop is in store. I am now using my old laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 7500 operating with Win XP. Following startup, and once most of the desktop is loaded, I get a warning message "Could not get stats" followed by "Main window initialization failed" message. Does not seem to affect anything and all works well (albeit rather slowly, but that's another issue!!).
Shall I just leave well alone or is there an underlying problem. Not sure if you need any more hardware information, but I rather assumed this was a software issue so left out the hardware information for now.
Thanks
Gareth

The error you are receiving is not coming from Windows itself; rather, it is
probably coming from a program that launches at startup.
You can use the "MSCONFIG" utility to try to isolate which program is
throwing the error:

Many thanks for the advice. It looks as if the offender was associated with my broadband modem. I have taken this excerpt from the www.sysinfo.org website, which is an invaluable tool for checking startup items.
Name or Startup Item Status Command or Data Description
Speedtouch USB Diagnostics Dragdiag.exe. For an external Alcatel ADSL high-speed modem. A diagnostic tool and can be run from the Start menu when required. The only reason it might be useful on startup is if you like seeing an 'at-a-glance' status indicator on the taskbar (the icon is a different colour depending on the status of the device/line).
Many thanks, as always, for such a great and speedy service.
