Cannot change screen resolution

  1. Cannot change screen resolution

Problem: I cannot change my screen resolution, it wont change from the biggest setting and the lowest color scheme. Everything is really big. I dont even get the option to change to a higher resolution. I installed Ubuntu (linux) and this fixed the problem. but i went back to winXP and the resolution is like it was again. (i had this issue before with winXP, thats why i installed linux) i tried to install red hat (linux) to see if that would fix the problem and it didnt, red hat has the same issue. Huge icons, low screen resolution, low color. and now theres no sound. please help me.

  2. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

Sounds like you need to reinstall your video card driver. Do you know what brand and model it is? You can download Everest from my signature, run it and look under computer summary for your video specs.

  3. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

just uses the built in video drivers, when i look at device manager my ethernet adapter is not installed for some stupid reason, no sound drivers work, nothing, its retarded. if i try to use the ipconfig command with any arguments or switches it just returns "windows ip configuration". i also tried to uninstall all the device drivers for the problems i have but that doesnt work either. im about the throw it out the window.

  6. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

    Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

    Select your model above.

Remove your current NVIDIA driver via Add or Remove Programs under the Control Panel then install the latest driver for your model.

Before you can use your ethernet port in XP you have to install the drivers. If you post the information about your computer (make/model) and graphics card we can try to help you. Did you recently reinstall XP? Do you have a desktop or laptop? If it is a desktop do you have an ethernet card or is it built into your computer? Do you have any of the discs that should have come with your computer?

If you port is built into the computer then you need chipset drivers and if it is a card the you need the drivers for that card.

To avoid confusion, it is best to create your own help thread. Also you might not have exactly the same problem or solution. You might just have the same "symptoms". Does that make sense?

  8. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

With a two year old thread it makes sense but rather than confusing the new user I simply posted the most likely fix.

    Reload the drivers.

  9. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

Oh, I didn't notice how old this thread is.

  10. Re: Cannot change screen resolution

I hope this helps. Sometimes the simple approach is the best. Open up the device manager and right click on the video driver and click update. Once the update is complete you should be able to adjust the resolution.
