    computer spikes every 10 seconds

hi, my dad recently bought me a computer from a guy and he custom built it. the problem is is that when i play a game called cs, it will be fine for maybe 10 seconds, and do what seems like a quick laggspike, but its not cause i checked ping, and it does it alot, it doesnt stop. and it also does it for my windows. as im typing this its like typeing normal and then i will keep typing and it will stop typing and like lag sorta, and then come back to the typeing, it doesnt miss the keys, it just kind seems like a little computer lag spike. any ideas on whats happening and what i should do to fix it?
    thanks

Look at your Task Manager. Right click any empty area of the Taskbar and then click Task Manager.

Open the Performance tab. See how the CPU usage goes over the course of a few minutes.

You can also go to the Processes tab and see what application might be spiking.

You can also check you logs:

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Also view your Error Log via:

    [1] Start Menu
    [2] Help and Support
    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

    Look for any synchronous entries.

in the task manager, i click the proccesses tab and nothing seems to be spiking my CPU, but when i click on the performance tab, it says that there was a almost 100% usage at one point, and little spikes that go up to 30 or so and then drop right back down. and for the error logs, i get alot of them, but not since april 4th for the 2nd way you suggested. and the other1st way you suggested i got these:

there was alot more, but those were the ones that keep repeating

Those Info lists are basically normal startup behavior. They are Services being opened.

    Having reviewed your motherboard manual:

    http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...9_p4b533-e.pdf

    And your Graphics Card:

    http://www.nvidia.com/page/fx_5200.html

I am seeing a possible conflict. Your board supports AGP 4X PRO whereas that card is 8X with no mention of 8X/4X. This is a possible conflict that could result in your performance problem. I would suggest verifying this with the computer builder.

If your motherboard does not fully support the graphics card the only thing you can do is get a card that it does support.

If this is a newly built computer it should have a warranty and the builder should be responsible. Your dad must know who he bought it from?

If this problem has always existed it even more suggest a hardware conflict.

Did this computer ever work OK? Or has this always been a problem?
