ok, you get that error when the boot.ini is corrupt, the fixboot should have sorted it..... try fixboot again
type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows
and if that doesnt work, a repair install should fix your problem.

    try this: http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/ntboot/

if that doesnt work, a repair install will be needed...... a repair install will only delete/re-install the windows files (leaving everything else alone)

you will probably need to re-install your audio/video drivers after the repair install.

Unfortunately a Repair Install requires a Microsoft XP CD (with proper key).

You will need to find your Recovery disk. What is the make and model of the computer?

There is a slight chance that there is a Recovery hotkey if the hard drive holds a Recovery partition.

Otherwise you probably need to contact the manufacturer to purchase another Recovery disk.

Unfortunately eMachine offers no direct advise except Contact them.

    http://www.emachines.com/support/options.html

For a full recovery you would need your Recovery Disks.

Here is a slightly more detailed possibility using the Recovery Console from that XP CD:

If you cannot boot into Windows I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307654

To try to fix the boot:

Assuming that your XP is on C: then:

    Type:

    FIXMBR C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    FIXBOOT C:

then enter. After that completes type:

    BOOTCFG /rebuild

then enter. After that completes type:

    EXIT

    then reboot.

If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.

Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:

    C:\Windows
    1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
    2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
    3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)

    Reply:
    1. Yes
    2. XP
    3. /fastdetect

If this fails you probably need your eMachine disks.
