Unhappy Re: Automatic immediate Logoff as soon as Login

Multi-media XP on a Sony Vaio.

    Same issue, (immediate log out)
Tried some solutions, and them some:
    1. wsaupdater issue
    2. "Repaired" XP

It is not, imo, a boot issue. If you couldn't boot, you wouldn't be able to make the original log-in.

It is, I think, a regestry issue. I love the MSFT resolution for the wsaupdater solution: copy userinit to wsaupdater, reboot and edit the resestry. Can't do that if I still get an immediate log-off.

I have done everything I can think of, short of using KNOPIX to hand edit the regestry.

Terminal log-ons produce the same result.
And I can't do the "safe mode" log-on w/or w/out networking. If I could, I could access the regestry.

    Any further help much appriciated.

I have seen this when i was playing around in the User controles of XP Pro, what my problem was that i set some users to auto reboot if they had done a certin type of log on, if you can acess "user rights", than your A ok. just look for what seems off, if this doesn't help sorry.

    Some interesting developments.

CAn log on in safe mode wihout network connection, but only if network is disconnectinted.
Can not log in in either safe mode if netwokr is copnnected.

Have found the solution to MY problem, but masybe not yours.

For reasns too detailed to go into here, seems to have been a registration (activate windows) problem.

Hopwever, I would recommend checking the following key:

    local_machine\software\microsoft\windows NT\Current version\winlogon
