Problem with mouse leaving the screen when it goes to the right

i'm not sure how to fix the problem, but when my mouse goes over to the right side of the screen it keeps going. it doesn't stop at the edge like it does to the left side or top or bottom. i don't know why it does but it causes my programs that are running to minimize, and for some it takes a while to full screen again. can anyone help me please?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

So this is a brand new computer? What is the make and model? e.g. Dell Dimension 4200

Is this XP Home? Pro? Media Edition?

Normally when the cursor/pointer is moved to the left or right edge or the top it becomes a double edged arrow (of course you only see half) <->. Moving to the bottom normally it disappears but should not minimize programs.

Just to verify: is your Task Bar on the bottom of the screen? The start button lower left?

the thing is though it disappears on the bottom, when it goes to the right side it doesn't stop. it stops at the bottom and you can still see the cursor. when it goe to the right it disappears completely and if you keep moving it to the right it won't stop.

See if this scan shows you anything:

What is your screen resolution set at? To check this:

start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Screen Resolution

Did you try that Dell checkup scan?

Also as a test try changing the resolution to the max. or if 1024x768 is max. then try a lesser setting to see if the problem persists.
