    help me complicated problem!!!

    where do i start from......
    ok
    i have 4 partitions , C, D, E, F.......20 GB EACH OK.
the prob is i had win xp on D and win 98 on C
then 1 day i delelted 98 files from logging in in xp ...
then on startup it showed 2 options but only 1 worked thats win xp!!

there was a virus on D (xp) so i installed another XP (fresh ) on C again
...but that did not work after installation for some reason...so again i deleted the files after logging in from Dxp ....
so on boot up i had 3 option win xp win xp and win 98 ..but only 1 worked ..
by going in startup and recovery options i changed the text file and on boot up
now i have 2 options win xp(works)ndows default (doesnt work)...
    ok
now the problem is i want to format C but i am unable to do so....
i log in from D ( xp ) and then in C(NTFS file sys) but it says windows was unable to complete the format ..
other way by going in CMD i try to format but no use ...
i think it s cauz of old system files left on C .(thought i cant see them)
so plzz suggest me how do i format C ....................

you cannot normaly format C as this is the deafault boot drive,
first off, you will need to switch the letters of your partions:

click Start > Run and type: diskmgmt.msc
Right click on C and click and "Change Drive Letter & Paths..."

i dont know if that will work, it might say that you cannot change it.
i think there is something on MaxBLAST 4:

    Hope this helps, Mike

I found one idea about making sure that there is no page file on C:
    - Change Disk Drive Letters

First you must remember that you CANNOT change the letter for the

boot drive if it contains the PAGEFILE.SYS (swap file) and/HIBERFILE.SYS(hibernate file).

To move pagefile.sys use Control Panel | System | Advanced tab | Settings

under Performance | Advanced tab again | Virtual Memory and CHANGE

button. set the drive you want to move FROM to NO Paging File and click on SET.

set the drive you want to move TO and click SET.

to disable hiberfile.sys use Control Panel | Power Options Hibernate tab.

    THEN REBOOT and

Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Disk

Management under Storage, then RIGHT click on the drive letter to change

and select the Change Letter option.

THEN following the first procedure set the PAGEFILE.SYS back to the

    drive it was on originally.

XP automatically adjusts the registry for the drive letter changes.
Otherwise you may need to start from scratch with a Clean Install of XP:

I would back up any needed data and then do a Clean Install of XP.

also my C is NTFS file sys. but others are FAT32 i want even C to be FAT 32 is it possible after clean install
on which shall ido a clean install C or D ??
theres already one XP on D!!
how do i do the clean install plzz give the whole procedure

also i am unable to reply in the forum it gives error the msg is too short????for the msg above

    ok
thnx anyway reply in forum i will wait for u r reply
That error would indicate that everything you are typing is within a [quote|/quote] therefore there is no message.

Anyway what I suggest is a Clean Install. This will Format the entire drive. All data will be lost. During the Install you will be able to set up new partitions as you wish. I do not know why you would want a FAT32 partition but you will be able to do this during setup. This is the best guide that I know of:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

XP will choose the drive letters. C: will become your system partition. The rest is up to you.

    Hope this helps.

I would say spend a few buck on a DVD burner or an exteral hard drive
then move over what your want off of your Computer, wipe the drive and reinstall xp
