Aol 9.0

Aol 9.0
Hi,
Can anyone help. I have recently upgraded to aol 9.0 using a Thompson Speedtouch 576 router modem. Since the upgrade I have been unable to use my VPN connection which gives me access to my PC at work. I have done some digging and have found out that this is because of the modems idle time default which is set to 60 seconds.
AOL does not support VPN connections so I have to use Internet Explorer to log on. Log on is fine and I can access my PC at work with no problem but then after 60 seconds aol shuts down.
From what I can see I am unable to locate the modem on my PC so cant change the idle time settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Where did you find the info on the 60 second idle? Was there not any idea on how to reset this?
As that router/modem has no software there would be no settings from the computer. Are there any mechanical switches on the router/modem?
Is it possible to have both AOL and IE open simultaneously? Just to keep AOL active in the background?

Hi,
I got the information on the idle time second hand from our IT manager at work. There are no mechanical switches other than on and off.
I use the VPN by having IE and AOL open simultaneously so that AOL is open in the background but as I said in my thread it just kicks me off after 60 seconds which is an absolute pain. I used to use AOL 8.0 with a BT Modem which worked absolutely fine. I would change my provider but by upgrading I have subscribed to a further year so I'm stuck with it.
I have also downloaded an idlefix program but again this has made no difference!!!!

see if aol dialler makes any difference (uses the same connection as the normal aol but without the program open)
-Rt click the aol icon in the system tray (bottom right)
-Click start aol dialler
-Type in your screen name and password
-Click sign on
it may need to detect the modem, if it does, i will find all the modems attatched/installed on your computer, select your Thompson Speedtouch 576 modem router, it will then connect you to the internet...
open internet explorer and try connecting to your computer at work
also, try this:
1) rt-click aol icon in the system tray
2)click system information
3)Go to the utilities tab
4)Click clear browser cache and re-build aol adapter
have you still got your BT modem? is it a broadband one? (possibly one in the voyager series)
if so, try that.... if it is the voyager, you will need to install the driver for it.
Hope this helps,
Mike
