problems with my radeon 9600 xt4 card

hi,i've got a problem with my radeon 9600 card
everytime when i play a pc game, the display becomes after some minutes black
i think the reason for this is the driver(6.14.10.6414)because he is very old(i think 2 years) but i don't know on which page i can download a newer one(on the homepage of ati,i didn't find the right driver) or perhaps the vpu recover is the reason for my problems...
thanks for help and sorry for my bad english(i'm a german student :-) )

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

That sounds more like a heat issue than a driver issue. Is the problem only during game play?

The latest Catalyst (ATI driver package) is here:

    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=293

Follow the thread: ATI Customer Care > Drivers and Software > Windows XP > RADEON >

Catalyst 6.4 Windows XP - Driver Download

Note all the details including the uninstaller before installing.

ATI recommends VPU Recover for system stability.

hi,the problem is since i have the pc
it's only if i play a pc game and sometimes the display goes of after some minutes and sometimes after one hour or longer
sometimes there comes an error message of the vpu recover
where can i uninstall the driver?

    edit:
i downloaded the driver, but i don't be sure if i downloaded the right one
is Microsoft .NET Framework the right one?

You need the first two on the list:
    Microsoft .NET Framework Download
    1 of 3 23.1 03/30/04 This is a required download.

    Catalyst Control Center Package Download
2 of 3 34.2 04/12/06 Display and WDM Drivers included in this bundle
ATI has a driver uninstaller listed on that page also:
ATI recommends Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher to be installed.

You must have Microsoft .NET Framework installed prior to downloading and installing the Catalyst Control Center

The Catalyst Uninstaller is an optional download. We recommend using this utility to uninstall any previously installed Catalyst drivers prior to installation.

It might be. I only see what you see. Is there some reason that you haven't taken SP2?

You will fins SP2 in Windows Update > start > All Programs > Windows Update

    More info here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

It is a rather large download. About a half hour on a good DSL.

You could try the driver without it but I would suggest taking SP2 and all Critical Updates.

If you want to try without it I would set a Restore Point so you can restore your present condition in case of problems:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    hi,now i've got sp2 and i used the cat-uninstaller
ehm,i installed the 6-4_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_31959 and it works
    but i can't install dotnetfx.exe
    there comes an error message:
setup cannot install Microsoft .Net Framework because another version of the product is already installed

Can you play your games OK now?

Look under Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to see what version of Microsoft .NET Framework you have.

Anyway you apparently have what you need.

    So how's it working?
