    Exclamation can't download .exe files

I can't seem to download any .exe files correctly. They all come out as exe.doc and I can't change the application because the computer won't let me. Apparently all files work except for exe.
Why only this type of files and how come my computer which has WinXP does this?

Here's a couple of sample of whatit looks like when I tried to change it. As you can see that when it prompts to download that it's default as .doc file. By the way this is from a Micromedia Flash download thingy.

For the second one, that's when I opened the Advanced button to see info on it and this is what I got. The Extension is set on doc and I can't change it. I know that if I can change that extension I wouldn't have the problem anymore, but how? Is the MIME Type correct?

I already have tried changing it by naming the file name when saving it but that just made it worse bacuase it doesn't open on anything.

Help me!! Or I'll never be able to download/open program files ever again.

The odd thing is that you have the MS Word icon on your download window! Check which default program opens your downloads. I'm guessing they're wrong - either that or you're trying to open an exe file with word.

Out of interest... have you tried a different browser? Is this a home machine or a work one? What operating system are you using?

That is what I get when I downlaod not when I open. Since the MS Word thing is stuck I can't open it either. All my browsers do that on my laptop. It only happens when it's an EXE file.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software? If new you might try a System Restore.

What is the source of these downloads? From the screen shot it appears that you are downloading something from your own desktop

Are you also saying that you cannot open Word? The program?

This site has a restore list of file extensions. You might try Restore default association for EXE files

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

You might also check your settings for File Type via the Control Panel > Folder Options
