My pentuim 4 dell windows XP, has been acting alittle strange... its been showing the yellow update popup on the right bottom side next to the time and it keeps sayin updates are ready to be installed, and when i do that and it does every thing its suppose to do, it does it agian after 2 or 3 minutes!! any help will be much appretiated

Open the Security Center from the Control Panel.

See if anything is happening there. From there you can also try going to Windows Update and see if it offers any Critical Updates.

wat should i look for in the security center?

do you get "updates are ready 2 be installed" or "your computer needs to be restarted" if you get your computer needs to be restarted, restart your computer..... i know it sounds daft but i was getting confused with it

also on windows security, click automatic updates under "manage security settings for:" and make sure it is on automatic, if it wasnt, select automatic click apply, then ok, close security center and restart your PC

I was wondering if there were any alerts or advisories in the Security Center.

I would go to Windows Update and take all Critical Updates.

If the problem continues after you have all Critical Updates then we can try to trace it from there.

Also as madmikejt12 points out rebooting the computer after Windows Updates is essential.

If you have not rebooted after an update you will be constantly urged to do so.

You will see that yellow icon because of this.

ic well in the security settings i changed computer updates to evry monday, since it was on evryday lol, so thats why it was telling me that its ready to install. and most of the time it does not tell me ot restart, but most of the time it does. thanx for your help.
