Can anyone help please

Windows XP
a user account cannot log on.
Windows attempts to switch user and apply settings, but a window pops up and states "windows cannot log you on, check you are connected to the network".
This is a stand alone computer with 1 Admin and a ltd account.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

I take it this refers to the Limited Account? Are you using Fast User Switching?

Also is this Home or Pro?

This is a new problem
This is a limited account and using fast switching
This is a Home Edition

You might try a System Restore to a date before this problem.

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

You might also try turning OFF Fast Switching.

As a worse case scenario you can create a new user and transfer the old data as seen here:
