my computers not working
Hi
My computer used to just switch off whenever i played a game like 10 mins into it. But now i switch on my computer and it logs in and everything then the screen freezes and the monitor turns off but with the cpu still working, then the cpu starts making a repetetive bleeping noise until i turn it off. I have opend my comp case to see if everything is in working order and it is. My video card fan seems to be making a loud noise whicn can be heard from dowstairs. Im thinking it might be the fans but, as soon as you turn the comp on they work to their full capacity to keep the computers heat down, so im thinking their might be something wrong with the hardware, possibly the video card, becasuse it gets hot very quickly, will i need it changing or just repaired? im a student so i cant afford to pay lots of money.
Thanks alot for any replies

The fan noise does not sound good. If the card has burned I don't believe there is anyway to repair it. Does your computer have an on-board VGA port?
Can you boot into Safe Mode?
Also are you saying the case speaker is beeping continuously?
What is the exact make and model of the computer?
-
Sorry whats a VGA port? i probably have becasue its a high spec comp
i cant boot into safe mode unfortunately
I dont what case speker is but it sounds like the noise is coming form the motherboard, so what does this mean?
Its a HP Pavilion bought it last year
Thanks Nav

What is the Pavilion model #?
Is it still under warranty?

A VGA port is what your monitor is plugged into. Some boards have ports on board (other than your graphics card) another monitor port.
Is it a noise or a repetitive beeping? beep beep beep etc.

Its a pavilion t770.uk
No it ran out a couple of months ago
Yes the VHA port is connected to the video card.
yes the noise is repetitive
Thanks

Just to clarify: when you say noise you are referring to beeps?
Try removing the graphics card and reboot without it.
Do the beeps remain the same?
Unfortunately I would suspect your graphics card is shot but we can try troubleshooting other areas.
I don't suppose you have another card to try?
-
Yes sorry its a beeping noise, but it doesent happen everytime
If i do take out the graphics card the monitor wont work should i still do it?
No i dont have another, are they expensive?
-
Just a quick search shows prices from $30 to $1,500 depending on the card and what it can do.

The beeps are the way your motherboard is trying to tell you what is wrong.
You say sometimes it beeps repeatedly until you turn it off?
Anyway if you remove the graphics card it should also beep. Perhaps in a different way.
This is what we are trying to hear/see. I realize that the monitor will not work. This is just a test.

Yes it beeps until i turn it off repetedly, beep beep.
I just tried taking out the video card and the beeping did not start, i tried it three times and did not hear the beeing. So what does this mean?
Thanks

Can you see any damage on the card? Any burn marks? Can you see if the fan spins easily? Can you feel any friction or anything unusual about how the fan moves? Can you see under the fan? Again looking for damage on the card.
