xp crash error really need your help
i have a friend of mine whose notebook just crashed.he was ripping some music and his system just froze and he got a blue screen with an error sying....
"UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"
AND IT WAS ALSO SAYING "DUMPING PHYSICAL MEMORY"
it also had another bit of technical information that goes like this.......
***STOP:0X000000ED (0X81A82030,0XC0000015,0X00000000,0X00000000)
he is using windows xp professional, celeron proccessor 2.8mzh,256mb
I have been through this entire forum searching for some help and have tried almost all that thought was applicable but nothing worked.I also ran a scan on the hard drive using the recoverable cd but it only scans 42% complete and says.....
"the volume appears to have 1 or more unrecoverable problems."
can anyone help pleaseeeee.i humbly ask for your help, god bless youthank you so much.

A blue screen depicting a physical dump isn't necessarily anything to cry about.... unless it happens every time at re-boot.
Has he actually tried to reboot yet?

When booting up to Win XP you may get a error that reads "Unmountable Boot Volume". This is probably because your boot.ini file is messed up.
So, what do you do about it, panic and try to mount your boot in your computer...... No that is probably not a good idea.
You can boot to the XP cd and when you see the Welcome to setup press the letter R
You will get a dos prompt
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows
If for some reason that don't work for you, you can boot to the recovery console like above and...
Type "chkdsk /r" then enter
When done type "exit" and hit enter.
This will take longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.
If you can boot into XP and want to try and analyze the XP errors:
Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.
Then:
1) Download and install the
Debugging Tools from Microsoft
2) Download and install this
debugwiz
3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

Thank you guys so much but i have tried all of that and it does not work
"chkdsk"
"fixboot"
"fixmbr"
ETC.
nothing works it just goes straight into a blue screen and restarts on it's own.it will not even go into safe mode it does the same thing.
Please anymore suggestions?

Do you have the XP CD or was XP pre installed (OEM).
If the former try a Repair Install as seen here:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
If the latter you need to check the manufacturer for Recovery Options (usually available on their web site).
What is the exact make and model?

Thank you so much for your help,we tried all of your options but it still did not work after i inspected the leptop again i finally realised that the fan was not working so i think that it overheated the system and caused it to malfunction in that way. I hope that my theory is correct the only way for me to find out is to try a new fan and that is what i will do and i will let you know if that was the cause.I appreciate your help so much thank you
God bless you.
