How do I assign a sound when I wake up my computer?
I am the only one who logs on to my Windows XP Pro sp1. I'd like to hear a friendly voice say 'welcome back' or some such thing when I wake it up. I'm not talking about when it first starts, or after I've logged off. Like I said, I'm the only one who logs on, and while the computer is on, I'm still logged on. I use my screen saver with the secure, enter password to wake up option. Is there a way to assign a sound to the event of typing in a correct password, so that when my desktop appears, it might say, 'So, where have you been?'. I think it would be nice to assign a sound to this event. Thanks to anyone who reads this. paj692

XP's sounds and their corresponding events are listed under start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds
You can choose any sound you like by adding a .wav file to the media folder.
The problem here is that event is not listed under XP events.
There might be a third party program that could do this but I haven't found anything with a quick search.

Good day PAJ 692
I think I understand what you want to do.
Create a WAF file, for example " welcome I've missed you"
Choose somewhere on your computer, ( desktop), to save the WAV file, remember where it is.
To asign this WAV file go to
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds---- OR
Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices > Change the Sound Scheme
You should now be in the Sounds Properties box.
From the Events list, choose what it is you want to do
Below the Events list, you should see the Sound list.
Brouse for your WAV file, click OK.
The next time you log back on to your computer you should hear your wave file---maybe.
The last time I did this I don't remember using third party software but Jephree may well be correct, I can't remember.

Hi Trouble
As long as you've got an MP3 player that has a built in mike, record what you want to say
upload file to PC, use some freeware to convert file to WAV and your off.

There are also many sites with pre-recorded .wavs such as:

I'll have a look at that myself
Thanks Jephree

There is an article on creating sound wav files and sound schemes on the D-A-L website at : http://www.d-a-l.com/articles/library/81.html .. Hope that answers some of the questions you have asked here. If you have others, feel free to post them and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
thanks,
Glenn

All this being said and seeing as the original poster paj692 has not returned yet
No matter how many sounds .wavs you gather you cannot create entry points from within XP.
There is no sound trigger for: Waking from Standby or Hibernate.
