MSIEXEC problem
Hi
My hard drive and floppy drive seem to get scanned for about 10 minutes at irregular intervals. I hear them clicking, and the mouse pointer momentarily changes, I think to the egg-timer, but its so quick I'm not sure. When this is going on, Task Manager-Processes shows that msiexec is taking up about 90% of CPU time. I have tried ending the process, but msiexec just pops up again somewhere else in the list. The noise from the floppy (brr...brr...brr...) is most annoying; I can stop this by disabling it in Device Manager, but this is a case of treating the symptoms! Can you help please?

msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI).
Have you had any failed installs lately? Something that could be trying to install itself?
You might want to have a look at this tool:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Also just to verify that you have no floppy or CD inserted.
