Computer died. Can't even connect to safe screen!
Had advice from different forum on cleaning up malware - and now! - A quick synopsis - cleaned up computer due to overload of malware, it was working fine. Advised to download service pack 2 - service pack two couldn't completely install and needed a patch file which I tried to download (and now can't remember what it was called). Rebooted computer it came up with a trap error 0000006 and it stayed on this screen. Trap error was due to lack of NTLDR file, which i replace, making the current one 'ntldr old'. I can now get past that screen but a new problem has arisen - it constantly reboots. I can get onto the safe mode screen but even though it looks as though it will select options on there it doesn't seem to connect and just reboots. Continuously.
I have been recommended by some online techy friends to buy whole new Windows XP home edition install disk and new hard drive so that i transfer data over and not lose all of my old files. To be honest, I can't really afford it. As you may have suspected I do not have a recovery disc, the system did not come with an install disc and now that my computers bust I cannot use the restore or last known good configuration points.

In a worst case scenario you can put your hard drive in another computer in order to extract your data.
Most computers have some sort of built-in recovery options if XP was pre-installed. What is the exact make and model of this computer?
Last but nit least you can possibly access the Recovery Console with the 6 floppy boot disks found here:
How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks
Then:
If you cannot boot into Windows I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307654
To try to fix the boot:
Assuming that your XP is on C: then:
Type:
FIXMBR C:
then enter. After that completes type:
FIXBOOT C:
then enter. After that completes type:
BOOTCFG /rebuild
then enter. After that completes type:
EXIT
then reboot.
If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.
Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:
C:\Windows
1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)
Reply:
1. Yes
2. XP
3. /fastdetect

tried it and did everything suggested (the dos boot discs did at least let me get into the DOS c:windows) I've chkdsk and chkdsk /r and fixed and given it a new boot sector (or something) but its no hope it still wont reboot to XP. When I was in C:windows it recognises that there is an Windows XP operating system loaded - I just can't access it!
