    Code 10
If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    Recommended resolution

Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

    Code 39
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

    Recommended resolution

Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.

Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

What is the make and model of the motherboard? Unless you have a PCI sound card the motherboard is the best source of drivers.

You need to find out what motherboard you have.

You say it is a custom made computer?

Run this scan and post back what is listed under Main Circuit Board

That scan shows your VIA chipset but not the board manufacturer. Do you have a driver CD for your motherboard? Or the manual?

    Try this other scan:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php

Also was the audio working previously? If so did you install any hardware or software that coincided with its' failure?
