Hi,
I'm running WinXP Professional on Compaq Evo N1050v, for some strange reason it does'nt detect my modem. Have tried refreshing and checking in Device Manager and there is no modem present, it was there before. What could cause my modem to disappear and how can I get it back or search for it.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

If it just happened try a System Restore to a date when it was OK:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Or maybe try to reload the drivers:
