my cpu has been out for 3 months because of this stupid problem, ok i wanted to watch my files on the television so I did something so stupid as set the oiginal screen to television, so now i cant watch it on my computer screen, and i didnt work on my televison, so basically i can see nada! and please help me figure out what to do, it must be some kind of reset combination to reset the screen mods?

Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key after your BIOS POST but before Windows starts.

Then go to start > Control Panel > Display > Settings

You should be able to select your monitor here.

well i do get the screen on sometimes but it just goes black when i press settings.

Do you have the drivers for your Graphics Card? An install CD?

If so I would suggest uninstalling it in Safe Mode then reinstalling it fresh.

To uninstall go to start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and look for your Graphics manufacturer e.g. ATI or nVidia

Uninstall any programs listed under these titles.

Also go to the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc > Display adapters
Expand (click +) and the right click the display adapter in question and choose uninstall.

Reboot again and reinstall your Graphics software.

If you do not have this disk then you can find the software on the web. Just go to the manufacturers site and choose Download > Drivers and match your particular card.
