Re: Black Screen at Boot Up????????
Well that didn't work so I don't know what to do now.....I'm still getting the black screen with the cursor..Any ideas?

Can you boot into Safe Mode? Repeatedly tap the F8 key immediately after the HP logo.
-
Yes I just got into safe mode and tried to start windows from the last known good point and I got this message............
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
I think I am in trouble huh?

There is always a solution. It may just take time and patience. This page has a lot of details on the HAL error
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm
First off see if you can start in Safe Mode proper rather than Last Good Config. See if you get the same error.

I just tried to start it in just safe mode and I'm still getting the same message....I will look at the link you gave me and try that...

There are a lot of different approaches in that link. I would first try the Recovery Console but I don't know how it is configured by HP.
I need to find your manual and look at some HP details. I am doing this just wanted you to know it may take some time.

I just looked at the website you showed me and I just don't know enough about computers to go into that..But atleast now I know exactly what the problem is and I can take it to the Repair shop and tell them.....Thank you for your help though!!!!

If I can find the HP approach to the Recovery Console we can work it out. I just need to search HP to find their setup.
HP uses it's own version of XP so we need to find their particular setup.
Will let you know what I find.

Okay thank you much for thta..I will check back later to see if you came up with anything...

Can you find your exact model? It may not be necessary but there are several 3200's
