    Cpu 100%

    Hi

My HP Lappy is running at 100% CPU usage although there is no slow down at all on the machine itself.

I have run all manner of adware programs but they fail to find a thing. The process using 100% is 'system'

any ideas on where to begin would be appreciated.

    Charlott xx

As per my original post, this is not a hijack issue.

    Thanks

    Any help out there?

    Charlotte.

The most common cause of this behavior is a virus. Posting a log for the Pros in that section would at least eliminate this possibility.

Otherwise: Have you tried a System Restore? You can also try to troubleshoot with msconfig

Selectively remove your start up items.

Also view your Error Log via:

    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

    Hi

tried msconfig, still no luck. Still 100% CPU so I guess I will have to pop out and buy a new laptop.

if it is not slow, then there should be no need, i often have 100% cpu usage when hardly doing anything. mine is an intel celeron 2.2Ghz... try doing disk cleanup and other utilities like that.
It would also be a very good idea to do what brain_damage and Jephree have said, because although it may not seem to by a virus or spyware, it could be... some viruses are not noticable without an AV (i.e you dont actualy notice anything strange happen)
