    STOP 0x00000044

I have a new Win XP Pro clean install. I am getting random BSOD with the following information: MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS, STOP 0x00000044 (0x862F9C68, 0x00000D62, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).
The value of the 1st argument changes each time I get the BSOD, but the 2nd argument is always the same. I've been told on other forums that this indicates a problem with the Intel chipset. However, the minidump files indicate a problem with the USB network adapter. There is also a 1394 Net adapter under network adapters in Device Manager. I don't know where this comes from. The MoBo has no 1394 capability. If I uninstall the device it is automatically installed on boot. Not sure if this contributes to the problem. I do remember when I was setting up Norton Internet Security the drop down menu for network adapters only indicated the 1394 Network Adapter. However, the network is working.
The question is what is causing the STOP errors and does the 1394 Net Adapter have anything to do with the errors?

    System specs:
    Intel D915PCY MoBo
    P-4 3 GHz LGA775 CPU (531)
    1024 MB DDR RAM (4 x 256)
    ABIT Radeon RX600XT-PCIE
    SB Live Audigy
    WD 120 GB EIDE HDD
    LG 4163B DVD

    Software:
    Win XP Pro SP2
    MS Office 2000 SR-1
    Norton Internet Security 2002
    Norton System Works 2005
    Intel Desktop Utilities
    ATI CCC 6.3
    Adobe Reader 5.0
    WinZip 10.0

    From similar error messages 0x00000044 + 0x00000D62

It appears to be a NIC card driver conflict. As if two devices were being triggered so your mystery 1394 firewire is quite relevant.

Are there any other entries under Network adapters? Perhaps try Disabling the firewire rather than uninstalling.

    Try this scan for us:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php

Also: If you want to try and pinpoint the faulting driver:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

First, there are no other devices under network adapters. Just the Linksys USB and the mystery 1394 which I have disabled. There is another separate heading under Device Manager called IEEE 1394 Bus Host controllers. I find this information interesting: PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 6, device 2, function 2) from the device properties. The other information from properties is: PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_4001&SUBSYS_00101102&REV_01\4&23C 0B1C&0&12F0
Again, this Intel MoBo does not have 1394 and the only PCI card is the SB Audigy!
The hardware scan is attached. I find it interesting that there is no mention of 1394 except in the external ports.
I ran the debug, result attached. It took five attempts as I kept getting STOP errors. It must have hit the problem on the head! This confirms what I was told: the problem is with the USBPORT.
Now, does this mean the USB driver is having a problem, or is this specific to the Linksys adapter or maybe even the phantom 1394? I am going to install a PCI NIC and see if the errors go away. However, I don't want to have a lingering problem with the USB! The USB Host controllers are Intel. Maybe I should install a Microsoft drivers?

BTW: Here is some info on the 1394 Net adapter from msinfo32

I just found this interesting piece of information about a Phantom 1394 Network Adapter at http://microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin
Appears to be linked to a Microsoft Update

Just to verify: I do see a IEEE-1394a (optional) device for your motherboard depicted as the H port in this image:

Can you vewrify that your board does not have this port?

Am reviewing other Intel links. Just wanted to clarify the 1394.

    Try this link
    <http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin/browse_thread/thread/c3749cf8f26e9194/4dc8ab009ead7b5c%234dc8ab009ead7b5c>

The 1394 device is an optional feature. It is not even listed on the box. The device cover has no holes for either LAN or 1394. I took off the side cover and visually inspected. There is nothing above the USB connectors.

I put in a PCI NIC. No problems for two days. I hope the problem is the USB network adapter and not the USB port.

Did any of the scans change? Is the 1394 still hanging around?

Do you have an USB device in order to test the ports?

I've had no problems for a week. I'm going to install a USB scanner and see how that works.
