Internet connection problem
I have a bit of an odd problem with XP Pro & IP.
I have an XP Pro machine and Router for broadband connection. Frequently I seem to loose all access to the internet through this machine. I have 3 other machines running W2k and these are fine both wired and wireless so I don't think that it is a router problem.
This made me think that it was an IP problem. I have set up a small batch file that releases the IP and then renews it and this is a temporary work around.
The IP is setup to obtain via DHCP as is the DNS etc.
Sometimes I can go for several hours without this happening other times it seems to happen every few minutes.
Has anyone got any thoughts that may help?

Just from a search I see the idea of right clicking the connection and choosing repair.
Also using a static ip address rather than DHCP if possible.

Could to explain what really happens once you've lost connection? unable to view web pages?local area network cable is unplugged,is the msg ?
Did you check with your ISP whether they've provided right router settings ?
whether IP Dynamic or Static is supported ?
Encapsulation?PPPoa /PPPoe / ppp over ATM ...
Multiplexing Method? Whether VC Based ?
Virtual Circuit? eg : VPI = ? , VCI = ? .
Authentication?eg : CHAP ?
Just check with your ISP if required .
And what is the make of your Router ?

Have tried repairing and this helped for a while then it kept crashing out every few seconds.
Have now set static to see what happens.
Main problem when happens is cannot open web pages. ICQ & MSN are fine Email works as long as it was open when the ip was lost.
