    Config file errors

    hi all,

can someone please help me? I think i have recently contracted a virus as i get lots of virus warning from my anti virus program, some of which it is unable to rectify and everytime i boot up they reappear anyway, i also got a message saying my administrator had disabled the taskbar when i did CTR, ALT + DEL (managed to fix this)

most annoyingly seem unable to access anything via My Computer without getting a msg saying #msntb_toolbar_full_name# is unable to load its config file and that i should restart if i havent already since upgrading or reinstall it.

i wouldnt really mind just wiping my PC and starting from scratch anyway, but i would want to shift a few things over from my C: drive first - but cant access it through WINXP. Can anyone advise how to do this via DOS or better still how to stop this problem in the first place?

many thanks, apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place!!

A Repair Install will not alter your files or settings:

How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

    Also a good guide here:

    http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If you want to try and repair the existing setup I would suggest posting a HijackThis log for the Pros in that section to review:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).
