    Unhappy Sound stopped working

    Hi
I'm new to this, so please go easy on me!! Firstly, I'm not sure if it's an XP problem, a driver problem, a hardware problem or something else, so I'm really sorry if I've posted in the wrong area... (If so, advice on how to move it to the correct forum would be appreciated.)
I was downloading some video via Firewire to my pc last night. One minute the sound on my pc was working fine and then it just stopped!! I've checked my speakers and they have not become disconnected. I've also tried different speakers and headphones, none of which work. I've been right through the trouble shooting guide on XP, but with no luck. Anyone got any ideas?!
Following a DirectX Diagnostic check, here are some details that I think anyone might need to try and help me:

You could try a system restore to a point before that download:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Otherwise you probably need to get a new driver.

What is the make and model of the computer?

    Hi Jephree
Thanks for the response. I'll try the system restore when I get home from work tonight. Not too sure what make the pc is - I had it built by chocolatepc. Motherboard is ASUS if that answers your question??!
Sorry - not too clued up on these things!

Ahh - just been having a look around and it appears that system restore is only available on XP professional. Unfortunately I have XP home edition. Sorry - should have stated that...!
    Any other cunning plans??

System restore is available in home. I don't know exactly where it is as I have professional. Do a search and it should turn up.

jephree, Jaynee and brain_damage - you are all scholars and gentlemen ( / ladies! ). System restore worked a treat - I now have sound again!
I'd never heard of system restore before, but will certainly bear it in mind should I have similar problems again.
Thanks very much for your time - you are all stars!
