    Microsoft Keyboard Instal problem

    Hi Guys,
I recently bought a Microsoft Curv Keyboard. It is a USB connection. Every time I try to connect it up to install, it asks for kbdhid, or i386, on the win xp sp2 cd. I put the winxp sp2 in but it just will not find the file required. The file is also something like this : kbdhid.sys;kbdhid sy. I did a search on win xp sp2 cd and did not find it either.

Apart from sending it back, I do not know what to do at the moment. Any ideas ,please.

Did you have a disc with the keyboard?
does a normal keyboard fitted in the normal socket work?

No disk came with it. I am using a Genius KB at the moment, and it is ps2 plug. I did try taking an adapter from my usb mouse to fit on to it. That would have allowed it to plug into a ps2 socket. But that did not work either. Even then the blooming mouse did not work in the USB socket ,lol.

Have you tried in different USB sockets?
    is it a multimedia keyboard?
    Was it new?

Yes, I did try a different USB socket, but I still have 3 more to try it on, as I will do that asap. It was newish and I bought it off an Amazon site. It is registered as a XP board, so it really should work. I keep coming back to a word which is related to the board called, HID. I just hope I have not bought a board which does not work on my specs. I tried to get the file it was asking for off the win xp sp 2 disk. But you know , I t did say winxp Home sp2 disk. Is there a difference between that and winxp sp2 disk. It does not mention on my diske home or otherwise. just win xp sp 2.

HID could mean Human Interface Devices.

as the PC works with a Genius keyboard plugged into the PS2 socket any chance you can try the USB keyboard in another PC ?

    what the keyboard or motherboard?

I will check them out . I also have been searching around and found this. (Intellitype Pro 5.5). Apparently, this file from Microsoft is for many of their KBs and includes the one I Have, in its list.
So keep your fingers crossed. If it works I will let you know.
    Thanks again.
