Hi,
I have recently started using my computer again after having it in a cupboard for a year, it all started up beautifully, but then after opening a few programmes everything stopped responding so I closed down. When trying to re-boot the system went through BIOS checks and then came up with a message saying something like 'sorry for the inconvenience Windows not opening properly' with the options; safe mode, safe mode network, last good config, start windows normally. When I try last good config it comes up with a blue screen saying it has a problem with D: drive Fat 32 and goes through disc check. Goes through the check then reboots itself and the system keeps going round in circles like this.
Really struggling any imput very much appreciated. I'm not particulary savvy when it comes to computers so please put any answers as simply as possible.
Mucho thanks in advance x

First off if you could keep your font color black my eyes would thank you
Next off what XP disk do you have? A retail version? Or a manufacturer's Recovery version?
If the former:
If the latter: what is the make and model of the computer? Different manufacturer's have different ways to Repair their XP's.If you cannot boot into Windows I would suggest first trying the Recovery Console:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307654
To try to fix the boot:
Assuming that your XP is on C: then:
Type:
FIXMBR C:
then enter. After that completes type:
FIXBOOT C:
then enter. After that completes type:
BOOTCFG /rebuild
then enter. After that completes type:
EXIT
then reboot.
If in the process you are asked to run chkdsk say YES.
Also after the BOOTCFG /rebuild you will be prompted to:
C:\Windows
1. Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All):
2. Enter Load Identifier: (Custom description for an operating system loading from the Boot menu)
3. Enter Operating System Load Options: (that is: /fastdetect)
Reply:
1. Yes
2. XP
3. /fastdetect
If this fails you can run a Repair Install that will leave your data intact:
