Comp Turns Off - CD

Re: Comp Turns Off - CD
Being that the drives do not work you have nothing to lose in uninstalling.
If it is not the drivers then it might be the cable.
You can replace that.
Seeing that both drives are affected I doubt that it is the drives themselves.
Otherwise you can start tracing logs:
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.
How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
Also view your Error Log via:
[1] Start Menu
[2] Help and Support
[3] Pick a Task
[4] Tools
[5] Advanced System Information
[6] View the Error Log

I don't know what to add unless you want to take it to a shop.
There is little risk in uninstalling. All the drivers are at that ABIT site.
If it is not a driver issue then perhaps the cable needs replacing.
If it is worse than that then you probably need a shop.
You could also try one drive at a time to see if they are interfering with each other.
All these mechanical ideas require opening the case and reworking the cables which is just unplugging and plugging but you will need to go inside.
Read this if you do: ESD - What can I do to avoid damage
I suggest uninstalling the Secondary Channel. If that does not fix it then reload the ABIT Intel drivers. If that doesn't fix it start experimenting with the cables. Try one drive at a time. Try a new cable.

it dosnt work.. hmmm, umm, i reckon its a cable loose in the computer.. but cant open it up, not allowed, and brother wont do it, but it will save us from going to the computer store...

You can try the ABIT driver:
INTEL Chipset Driver
2005/03/25
Revision
Win2000 / XP / 2003
v7.0.0.1025
http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/moth...RODINFO=Driver
This is a ZIP file. You need to unZIP it and then RUN the SETUP.exe.
Download to your desktop and right click the file and choose EXTRACT to folder.
Then open the folder and RUN the SETUP.exe.
If this does not work then it must be a mechanical problem. Going inside is no big deal and will save you a lot of money. Especially if it is a simple cable problem.

Sorry the driver didn't work.
It is listed for your motherboard by ABIT and from ABIT.
So did you get your CD drive working?
