    MCE - internet connection problems

When I go to configure/use my internet connection in MC it just does not work, I press the button and you get a small swirly graphiic.. this can only be got out of by closing MC in the task manager.

Also ERRORS which are normally reported do not happen as it seem to not realise there is a internet connection.
The system is a vaioFE11S, internet connection is a wireless setup before I had the new machine (since yesterday, have i broke it already LOL). I think it could be a possible problem with not setting up a new internet connection on this laptop that could be the problem, but would of thought it should work however its connected to the internet.

Any other pointers for the Media Center would be greatly recieved as I ain't got a clue on much of it even though it looks simple.

Another thing is for watching TV do I need to just by an ariel or a hardware too ? I would like to get digital tv, how about sky free channels to ? remote also wanted... any reccomendations.

    Russ

Are you referring to the XP Media Center Edition?

Or some other media format within XP general?

In other words what exactly is MC?

    See if anything here helps:

    Windows XP Media Center Edition

Now have the problem of the machine not wanting to shutdown, it will not respond to any of the 'turn off computer' options if it have been on for a while.

All the problem's I have had in 2 days are software problems, arrghhh.... I feel the supply will not be interested, will they just say ask mircosoft ?

The above link covers most setup issues. Did you use the Internet Connection Wizard?

    As to shutdown issues:

    http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

The seller of a new computer should be willing and able to help you get setup. (IMHO)

Also perhaps check with your ISP.

Have sorted all the major issues, but to be honest I'm well pissed off.

Do you expect a system that cost 1300 to need 20hours of 'work' of updates and trouble shooting before you get a stable system.

Now i'm having restart failures during software updates causing files to become corrupted, so now not only does the turn off functions fail to work when they do the crash half way through. Now as it does not come with disks, but had a back up partition you have to make you own the reinstall etc etc.

Basically the time I have spent has now exceeded the value of the machine, I will see if I can get in contact with them monday. To say they have a angry customer is a understatement.

Thanks for all your help anyway.

Phoned the distributor today, surprise surprise........"you will have to contact the manufacturer"

I asked politley about there terms of sale, told me unless it was damaged there is nothing they will do. With this I asked for confirmation that this was their final stance on the matter.

Have now informed them via letter that they are flouting the Sale Of Goods Act 1977, also informed Sony that this distributor is breaking the law and mis-informing its customers.

Why they think they can get away with this sort of thing is silly, not sure i'll get very far.

Try finding Sony's postal address.....its well hidden. Suppose they like you to use their phone support service, sod that.

All they have to do is a A4 print out of the update order and where you can get themso the system does not stop working from the day you switch it on. Obv does not make commercial sense in some way.

I am sorry for your troubles but I am glad that you are taking steps!

If more people would aggressively hold these companies accountable for not only a good product but a sincere service then maybe the message will get across.

    Thanks for keeping us informed.
