    graphic resolution

Hi. I'm new and I hope you may be able to help.

I have a P4 1Gb RAM PC at home and a X-force 356RAM graphic card. The monitor is a digimate 17" TFt flat panel.

My problem is the resolution of images on the screen; photos taken with the digital camera are very pixelated when zoomed-in. also, browsing the internet, thumbnails or images in articles are blurred and un-clear. Same with large images downloaded from the Net. I use a normal 1024x768 resolution on 32 bits. I had the same problem even before installing the new video card. same pictures which are blurred on my machine, are ok on the PC at the office.

I didn't had a particular software with the monitor but XP tagged it as "unknown monitor". Drivers for the video cards are installed ok.

It's the monitor or my settings which are wrong?

Thank you in advance for any clue.

    Regards

    Soothie

This is from the Digimate site:

    8. Fuzzy/Blurry/Unclear/Unfocused/Shadowing/Ghosting Display

The Display was pre-adjusted in the factory with standard VGA timing. Due to output timing differences among various VGA cards, you may initially experience an unstable and/or unclear display when a new display mode or new VGA card is selected.

You need to adjust the On Screen Display (OSD) Settings on the LCD. Refer to your Manual to learn more about the specific functions of your model. Common problems are horizontal or vertical black borders.

    • To stabilize, adjust the monitor's “Frequency/Clock” setting

    • To clarify, press “Auto Adjust” button from the display.

    • If you use extension cable to connect your LCD monitors to your PC system, please check your extension cable or connect your LCD monitors directly to your PC system.

Do you have another monitor to try to verify if this is indeed a monitor issue or if it might be XP?

Also check the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc | Monitors
    for any yellow "!"

    Reply to DAL and Jake:

In device manager there is no yellow ! and the driver info says all are working properly.

Digimate monitor is adjusted automatically and overall, the image is fine; even DVD played on the pc are good quality but not crystal clear.

The only problem are the photos. As i said, same photos on my office pc are super clear and even when zoomed-in but browsed on my home one I can count the squares I see when I want a close-up.

Digimate does come with a manual on CD-rom but It cannot be played on all machines... (Yes, it's true). It's a pdf file which takes ages to open on my server and crash my home pc.

I will try another monitor to see if problem persists and will let you know.

    Thanks

I've tried my flat monitor with my office pc and everything it's ok; same resolution as the original CRt one, etc. and no change in other technical features. background image displayed crystal clear.

back home, still the same issue.

What is strange though, is that DVDs, games or other graphic programs are running ok, with no blockage or freezing. Only images, thumbnails and website photos. I really don't understand...!

all setting are standard, 1024x768. 32 bits, 70 hrz, normal temp, etc. and the panel is connected to the XFX Geforce FX5200 256MB AGP8X Graphic Card with DVI & TV-Out.

As it's difficult to take my pc to test it with an office monitor, any suggestions, please????

    Thanks

It sounds like it is the computer and not the monitor. You had said: "I didn't had a particular software with the monitor but XP tagged it as "unknown monitor""
First off XP would require no software/drivers for a monitor but what do you mean by: " XP tagged it as "unknown monitor""?

Also are we talking about on-line content only? What about your My Pictures folder for example?

Is this ALL on-line photos or just Some?

Any idea if it is particular file types? .jpg? .gif? .bmp? etc. You can see this by right clicking the photo and choosing Properties.

In display properties/advanced/monitor, it says unknown monitor. It's not a plug&play monitor.
This happens to all photos online - for instance, when opening the bbcnews website, all small photos from the front page are blurred and pixelated.
if I go to google image search, the same, the thumbs displayed are not clear and if I open even a large type photo I can still see the "squares" of the pixels.

If I download a 800x600 or 1024x768 photo as background wallpaper, it shows clearly the square pixels. Same photo, downloaded at the office on standard monitor and 256ram memory and 32ram graphic card is really crystal.

my pictures folder: I usually have 1024x768 images but when I open them and zoom - reasonably - again, pixels all over. same photo at the office, good resolution for similar zoom depth.

And now I have a strange thing going on when online: when a page comes up, it's a loading bar on each thumb while the photo is regenerating. didn't do anything on settings though.
I have to say I have dial-up at home but I don't think it's a reason to get a lower resolution on images and especially my personal digital ones...

    cheers

Are you using any type of dialup accelerator on the home pc? They are known to cause the problems you describe. Check the settings if you are and turn down the acceleration rate some, see if this resolves your problem.
