I bought my computer quite some time ago, and it has a DVD player. Unfortunately (very long story), I do not have the DVD software for it, so that I cannot use the Windows Media Player to play DVD's on it. There seem to be free downloadable DVD software programs, but I'm worried whether: 1. this is the best strategy, since it makes sense to get the software for Windows Media; 2. the safety of these programs and whether they would in fact be compatible to my computer.

This Window's Media site lists four decoders each for @ $14.95 U.S.

There is free stuff out there but the legitimacy and safety are always questionable.

For the fifteen dollars you can be legit and safe.
