    Computer cant detect printer

    Hi! Please could someone help me.. I'm really not very good with computers.. I got a new acer laptop xp etc it didnt have a serial port for my printer so i get a USB adapter cable which worked fine.. I was printing then my computer had a spazz and shut down when it restarted it wouldn't print.. i've checked the drivers etc for the cable and they are all fine, USB port and everything ok but the problem seems to be that my computer can no longer recognise my printer as i removed it and then tried to add it again but it couldn't be detected.. please has anyone got any suggestions on what to do? thanks very much

    Did this printer and this computer ever work OK?

    Could you define the "spazz"? Any error messages? Did the computer just shut off while you were printing? What exactly happened. If you remember the time that this happened you could check your error logs for any possible details:

    Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
    Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
    Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
    Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
    Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

    Also view your Error Log via:
    [1] Start Menu
    [2] Help and Support
    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

    All that being said you may need to completely remove the printer's software and then reinstall it again. The software before the printer.

    Hey

    I was printing a adobe reader file which i had downloaded from the internet.. i had printed several before and then it came to this one and the computer just froze there were no error messages i left it a while but it was still frozen so i switched it off and it turned on again fine went back to print the document and it wouldn't print an error came up saying there was a printing error i think. So both the computer and printer have worked fine before this.

    I have checked for errors and I found the one for when it happened there is a warning one as follows

    Source: print ID: 8 Description : Printer Epson Stylus COLOR 640 ESC/P 2 was purged.

    Then an error Source: Print ID: 6161 and the following description...

    The document Microsoft Word - Document1 owned by Tora failed to print on printer Epson Stylus COLOR 640 ESC/P 2. Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 1936. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client machine: \\ACER-2E68C49B20. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 2 (0x2).

    These errord were under system there were none under applications..

    Any ideas?! thanks so much or your help..

    just to clarify.. the computer did not freeze while printing.. i sent the document to print and then it froze..

    Here is a simple try:

    Tracing other posts Re: error 6161

    I restarted the print spooler service and it solved the issue.
    start/run services.msc

    Right click Print Spooler and Start if it is not. Also set to Automatic.

    Did you try start Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Troubleshooting?

    Otherwise uninstall any and all Epson software and shutdown to physically remove the printer unless there is an option to remove the printer via Printers and Faxes.

    Reboot once without the printer and shut down again.

    Then reinstall the printer as if for the first time (as seen in the Setup Guide):

    check the user manual for IRQ Settings. Maybe there is a conflict.
