Hi, Just tried that it came up with yellow ! message only with my name!

Found this in a search:

If they were transferred to this PC using a CD copy, they will be marked "read only", which can cause these problems.

ive had a look at the info you sent, i do not think memory is a problem. But have been messing around with office but things just get worse. Im really tired now so will have another go in the morning/afternoon!!!

If you right click the files and choose Properties you can see if they are "Read Only"

If so clear the box (uncheck).

Also another post from the above search:

When I click on an Excel file to open it, the file opens but an error message is displayed that says a file with that name is already open and that I can not open two files open with the same name.

If you are sure it's not really happening (you may have Book1 open and then attempt to open a Book1 from another folder), then try re-registering Excel.

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button
2. Choose Run
3. Type "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.Exe" /regserver (include the quotes) -- adapt to fit your path.

Other things to check:

1. In Excel, choose Tools>Options.
2. On the General tab, make sure "Ignore Other Applications" is not checked

Thanks for help, do not know what was wrong, but re-installed office and it seems to be okay now. Think i had an older version of office so installed with most current one i have. maybe that was something to do with it??
