OS installation help needed
Ok, I have a couple questions and I haven't been able to find the answer to them yet. I just built a computer with the new AMD SLI deluxe motherboard, AMD 64 3500 chip and geforce 6600 256 mb graphics. I've installed windows xp media edition and it installs fine until I get into working windows. I begin installing the motherboard drivers and get a runtime error on a couple of them. It's alright but when I start downloading my other items i.e... my wireless keyboard and mouse, software, my internet security, everything comes with unable to install errors including RPC unavailable and runtime errors. I also have no internet explorer icon. All I have is the "open with" icon telling me to choose what I want to open it with. It still says "internet explorer" but there is nothing there. Everything else checks out but I can't install anything. Please help if you can. Thank you soooo much. Have a good day/night

Is everything here brand new?
What was the source of the windows xp media edition?
As these are generally OEM disks that might be an issue.
Anyway at this point my first step would be to start over and try again.
If it fails on a second try then we can start digging from there.

Hey bud, thanks for responding. Yes everything is new in box. The windows xp is a computer store copy so I don't know anything more about that. as far as starting over do you mean to just reformat from scratch or from building the computer? Also, when I installed the windows and I was on the second disc, it informed me to put the Service pack 2 cd in. Well, I'm guessing it didn't come with it but I didn't think that a service pack would cause these types of problems. If so, then I need that. Only thing is I can't download it if I don't have internet explorer heh. Ok well I hope this helps. Thanks again for responding bro. ttyl

I meant to reinstall XP. I don't know much about the Media Edition other than I see that it is generally an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) install.
It is on 2 disks?
Anyway SP2 was a major upgrade and might be causing issues especially if it was being asked for. You can download it on another computer and then burn to a CD. It is a large download (266.0 MB). The page below lists the speeds per connection type. Anywhere from 45 minutes (768K DSL) to 10 hours (56K Dial-up).
You can get it here:
