Need to reboot before Internet access

    Hi all,

If I have my LG Notebook running offline and idle for more than about 20 minutes I find I cannot access either internet (using any browser) or email. The computer goes online via my ISP but, for reasons unknown, it can't hook up to Internet or email until I reboot.
Perhaps a clue is that, if I have (say) Media Player endlessly playing music then there is no problem regardless of how long it has been since I made a key-stroke. The problem only arises if I have left the computer idle for around 20 minutes.
    Any clues?

    Cheers,

    Neil

Do you have to reboot or will just closing then reopening IE/OE work?

If closing/reopening does not work: do you have to reboot or will Logging off/on Windows work?

How do you know that "the computer goes online via my ISP ..."

Is the connection seen as connected? What happens if you disconnect the reconnect here?

Also what Power Settings do you have? Do you have Standby or Hibernate on? Or what?

Lastly Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously?

    What is your connection? DSL?

    LOGOFF DOESN'T WORK

THE COMPUTER HANDSHAKES WITH ISP AND TELLS ME I AM CONNECTED (I AM ON DIALUP)

YES. RECONNECT DOES NOT SOLVE NEED TO REBOOT
Also what Power Settings do you have? Do you have Standby or Hibernate on? Or what?
I'M NOT SURE (NOT AT COMPUTER AT THE MOMENT) BUT I THINK BOTH. (IE NOTEBOOK SCREEN GOES BLANK AFET ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND THEN OFF SOME TIME LATER)
Lastly Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously?
    I'VE ALWAYS HAD THIS PROBLEM
    What is your connection? DSL?
    DIAL UP 56K MODEM

My first guess would be your Power Options.

Right click an empty area of the Desktop and then click Properties > Screen Saver > Monitor Power > Power

Set Power scheme to Always On just to see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks again Jephree. I suspect you are correct. I am heading home now so I will give it a try. Again thanks for the prompt reply.
